Sep. 27, 2009 San Diego, CA. Sometimes when we ask ourself what did I do  for my community it will be very hard to come up with a concrete  answer because most of us are just trying to overcome our  daily life and do not have time even to go to church and pray for our soul.   But there are few dedicated Ethiopian in San Diego who may have more than our hectic life but find a golden time to serve their community. For these few individuals I would like to say “God Bless You!”. Today as usual I went to the church to celebrate the Ethiopian Meskel or Finding of the True Cross. As usual I went with my digital camera and broken video camera. Something was telling me something special is coming up.

                After waiting for few hrs yes that something came in. It was something I did not expect, it was a dram organized by the dedicated volunteers (the Choir members) If I start mentioning names to thank for those people I will be in great trouble because I may forget names. So I better say thank you for the whole entire volunteers who are putting their time energy  for this church. This includes everyone choir members  or not , everyone who puts his/her time for the development of our church.

                The whole Meskel Celebration was very well executed and way beyond  my explanation. It was magnificent. If you are an Ethiopian orthodox follower and live in San Diego  and you did not go to the church today, I think you missed a big celebration.   The drama which was organized by the Choir groups was rich in history and educational.  Even kids who used to running around were seating, listing and watching everything quaitlly. It was impressive. The choir members who played their part did a wonderful job. The people who organized this event  deserves a heart full blessings . The Meskel celebration was one of the best in all years I have seen   and I see all Ethiopian Orthodox celebrations are getting better and better every day.

As I said before for those of us who are still procrastinating  to volunteer to  our church there will not be anymore excuse. These people have the same life as we do. They work, they go to school, they support  their  families and they have bills they need to think about like us. I think we all need to support them and we need to give time for our soul
